Mr. Martín will replace Mr. Christopher Weiss, who announced his departure from GPS in January. Since 2021, Mr. Martín has been the principal of West Gate K-8 School in Port Saint Lucie, FL, one of the district’s largest elementary schools consisting of grades PreK-8 with more than 1,600 students and 170 staff members.
“Mr. Jason Martín is a deeply passionate school administrator with more than two decades of experience at the preschool through high school levels,” Dr. Jones said. “He impressed Riverside School’s interview committee, consisting of GPS senior administrators, teachers, and parents, with his ability to lead, meet and exceed short and long-term academic goals, and align with district priorities. Parents and staff can expect Mr. Martín to be highly visible every morning and afternoon as he welcomes students to the most amazing learning environment called Riverside. Greenwich Public Schools continue to attract top leadership and teaching candidates from across the country.”
In his current position, Mr. Martín has been passionate about enhancing collaboration and strong early literacy and mathematics. He believes that all students should be given the opportunity to excel at their highest level which sets the expectation for excellence for all staff members to provide the very best instruction for their students. In his current role as a PreK through eighth grade administrator, his building has seen outstanding academic growth and developed a strong culture and climate. He has also been instrumental in helping students grow who have unique learning needs and are English language learners. Most importantly, Mr. Martín believes that a joyful learning environment must be coupled with outstanding teaching and high levels of learning growth.
