EMS Student Activities & Extra Help Guide 2023-24

Come join GHS student Charlotte M. for the Creative writing Club! The club will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 5th and Tuesday, Dec. 19th after school in room 221 (January dates will be announced later). Students will read and analyze examples of creative writing and learn revising skills to incorporate into their own writing. These activities can be used for school assignments, essays, or personal writing goals.  The Creative Writing Club will offer meaningful opportunities and will help members with writing on all levels! Drama Club is open to all students who are interested in being on stage or are interested in backstage
theater production. Following the winter musical, the club will meet at least once a month. Look for
announcements! Sponsored by Ms. Badillo and Ms. Fama. (Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
from 3:00-4:00 PM) - Auditorium

Eastern Voices is a select, auditioned choral ensemble open to all students. Sponsored by Mr. Kruk and Mr. Tracey.  (Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:15 AM) - Auditorium

How can I make a difference in my school? How can I make a difference in someone else's life? Consider joining the EMS GIVE BACK CLUB! The club will promote kindness and caring in our school environment. Our meetings will be based on the Greenwich Public School District Norms: Be Here, Be Safe, Be Honest, Care for Self and Others, and Let Go and Move On.  If you are interested in joining our club, we meet on Wednesdays from 7:30-7:55am. During this time we make posters and plan events like book drives, kindness week, and other charity events. Sponsored by Mrs. Moore – Small Cafeteria

Do you want to learn to invest and make money? Come to the first ever meeting of the EMS Investing Club! We will meet in Room 6 every other Tuesday starting November 21, from 2:45 until the late bus

Everyone has heard how important it is to reduce our environmental footprint and to go “GREEN”. The
Environmental Action Club (EAC) is a service club designed to improve our environmental impact here at EMS.
We meet to participate in fun “GREEN” activities and to provide a service to our EMS community! Sponsored by
Ms. Bartlett (Meeting after school twice a month from October-June, alternating Thursdays beginning October 6th) - Room 101

The GSA club was created in order to spread awareness, become an ally and advocate for the LGTBQ+
community. Sponsored by Ms. Friedman (Thursday’s after school until 3:45 PM) – Room 110A

Do you enjoy learning about history? Are you interested in playing history-based board games such as Risk? Join us in room 206 on the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month! Come for the snacks; stay for the history-themed puzzles, board games, coloring pages, and more! Our first meeting will be Monday, October 2nd (After school until late bus). Sponsored by Mrs. O’Connor – Room 206.

Jazz Band is an auditioned is an auditioned ensemble open to anyone who can play an instrument, read music, and who is interested in challenging themselves musically. Typical instrumentation includes: Saxophones (alto, tenor, bari), Trombones, Trumpets, and Rhythm Section (guitar, bass, drums, piano), but additional instruments are encouraged to sign up as well. Please see Ms. Brion for more information about audition dates – Jazz band will perform in the Winter and Spring Concerts. Sponsored by Ms. Brion. (Thursdays 2:45-3:45 PM) – Room 3

How can I make a difference in my school? How can I make a difference in someone else's life? Consider joining Kindness Counts! The club will promote kindness and caring in our school environment.    Our meetings will be based on the Greenwich Public School District Norms Be Here, Be Safe, Be Honest, Care for Self and Others, and Let Go and Move On.    Further, we will use materials for our club from the National Random Acts of Kindness Organization, which is founded upon the powerful belief in kindness and dedicated to providing resources and tools that encourage acts of kindness.  Sponsored by Mrs. Moore

The Lego Robotics Club is a student-run group that creates a supportive environment for students to explore Lego Spike Prime. Sponsored by Ms. Wang (Thursdays after school until the late bus– exact meeting dates will be shared in morning announcements) – Room 125

The math club is open to any math student. We practice activities to prepare for the Mathcounts and AMC 8 competition. Sponsored by Mr. Lodato (Second and fourth Tuesday of every month) - Room 106.

This club is designed to welcome new students to the EMS community. Its focus is on meeting new friends and
adjusting to life at Eastern. Club includes students new to Eastern Middle School as well as current students who want to help new students.  Sponsored by Mrs. Moore, EMS school counselor. (Meets as needed listen to the announcements) – Location: TBD.

The Student Council Association (SCA) chooses students from 7th and 8th grade level who want to be leaders in their school and their community. The SCA is in charge of fundraising for donations to local groups on behalf of the school as well as organizing activities and volunteer opportunities. Sponsored by Ms. Cole and Ms. Wax. (Friday during homeroom) – Room 109

The Science Team Is a club that is aimed at preparing students for the National Science Bowl competition.  All levels of science students are welcome.  The club will meet afterschool in Room 106 on the First and Third Monday of every month.  For more information join the google classroom. The Spain trip club will meet in late February and March to review key conversational expressions and to learn
about the geography and culture of Spain. Sponsored by Senora Calderon. (Specific dates TBA in February, after
school) – Room 217.

String Ensemble is an auditioned ensemble for high achieving orchestra students in grades 6, 7, and 8 who
demonstrate good playing position, left and right-hand technique, and facility on their instrument. This is an
exciting opportunity for students to collaborate with other highly motivated string students in the orchestra program at Eastern Middle School. Sponsored by Ms. Jeraci. (Mondays after school 2:50-3:45PM) - Room 1

Yearbook is open to any student who is interested in contributing to the Eastern Middle School yearbook. Girls Circle is a structured support group for girls and youth who identify with female development. It is designed to build self-esteem and resiliency and to promote positive connections through group sharing, activities, and games. The group typically meets for a period of 8-10 weeks, once per week during the school day. Sponsored by Ms. Friedman/Facilitated by the YWCA / 6th Grade Girls Circle.
